Circle Maze

Summary

This is a steady-beat rhythm game played on a 4x4 grid of sixteen squares, with each circle representing one beat. As the music plays, the teacher points to one square at a time along a designated route—horizontally, vertically, in a zigzag pattern, or in a circle—while students maintain a steady beat and move to the corresponding square. The game trains steady beat, physical response, and rhythm-reading skills.

Procedures

  1. 1

Prepare the space and music: Set up a 4x4 grid (16 circles in total) on the floor using hula hoops or floor markers, and prepare a piece of music with a clear rhythm and a moderate tempo.

  2. 2

Clarify the rules and warm up: Explain to the students that each circle represents one beat. Play the music, and have the whole class march in place around the grid to the beat to establish a steady beat sense.

  3. 3

Basic route challenge: The teacher points to the circles one by one following the musical beat in a "horizontal" or "vertical" direction. Students line up and move through the corresponding squares, one step/jump per beat, following the teacher's guidance.

  4. 4

Advanced route challenge: The teacher changes the pointing route to a "zigzag (S-shape)" or "circling (O-shape)" pattern. Remind students to look ahead at the next circle and listen closely to the musical beat.

Variations

1. Speed up or slow down gradually to train tempo control.

2. Students design their own grid routes and the class follows.

Activity Preparation
