Note-Name Cross

Summary

Students read notes in treble and bass clefs and use their letter names (A–G) to complete meaningful English words in a crossword puzzle. Additional letters are provided as clues. Intersecting words help students check their answers while reinforcing note-reading skills in both clefs.

Procedures

  1. 1

Distribute the crossword worksheet and review note names in the treble and bass clefs.

  2. 2

Read the notes in each numbered staff and identify their letter names (A–G).

  3. 3

Fill the corresponding crossword squares with the note names. Combine them with the given letters to form meaningful English words.

  4. 4

Use the intersecting letters to check answers. Play the notes on the piano to reinforce note recognition.

Activity Preparation

1. Printable student worksheet and teacher answer key.

2. Pencil or writing utensil.
