Steady Beat Beanbag

Summary
Students sit in a circle and pass a beanbag to the next person on every steady beat, keeping the pulse together as a team. The game internalizes a steady beat and builds ensemble cooperation.
Procedures
- 1
Students sit in a circle; the teacher establishes a steady beat by clapping or playing music.
- 2
Teacher models passing the beanbag to the student on the right on every steady beat.
- 3
The whole class passes the beanbag in time with the music (or the teacher's clapping), keeping the tempo steady.
- 4
Add more beanbags (two, then three…); can the class keep them all moving in steady time?
- 5
Challenge: speed up or slow down, or stop the music — students must keep the internal beat steady.
Variations
1. Change the passing direction (clockwise → counter-clockwise).
2. Clap once before passing, so the beanbag moves on the offbeat.
3. Add body percussion (stamping, patting ) while passing to reinforce the pulse.
Activity Preparation
1.Beanbags or soft balls (one per student or fewer, depending on the level);
2.Music with a steady beat, or the teacher's clapping;
Space for a circle.
