MAPS Submission Terms

Last Updated: October 6, 2026

Thank you for sharing your classroom activities and teaching ideas with MAPS.

By submitting an activity or related supporting materials to MAPS, you agree to the following terms. These terms are intended to help high-quality music teaching activities be organized, shared, and used more clearly while respecting contributors, original creators, and other rights holders.

1. Eligibility to Submit and Rights to Submitted Materials

You confirm that you have the right to submit the activity content, text, images, files, links, and other materials included in your submission, and that you have the right to permit MAPS to use such materials as described in these Terms.

Please do not submit copyrighted material that you do not have the right to share, reproduce, publish, or authorize for use.

If your submission includes content that is not entirely your own original work, please provide relevant source or rights information to the best of your knowledge.

2. Original Work, Adaptations, and Source Information

Music teaching activities may come from many sources, including a contributor’s original work, adaptations of existing activities, traditional or widely circulated teaching activities, ideas learned from teachers or colleagues, and other sources.

If your submission is not entirely your own original work, please provide, to the extent known, information about the activity’s source, original creator, references, traditional origin, or other relevant background, and describe any major adaptations you made.

If an activity is traditional, widely circulated, or its original source cannot be determined, simply describe what you know accurately. You do not need to claim the activity as your own original work.

Based on the information provided by the contributor and the results of editorial review, MAPS may label or describe the activity’s source, references, and adaptations accordingly.

3. Editing and Organization

To maintain the clarity, consistency, and searchability of the MAPS database, MAPS may make necessary edits, reorganizations, formatting changes, summaries, translations, or presentation adjustments to submitted content.

Such edits may include changes to or reorganization of:

  • activity titles and summaries;
  • wording and structure;
  • activity preparation and procedures;
  • teaching purposes and classroom stages;
  • tags, keywords, and database classifications.

MAPS will make reasonable efforts to preserve the activity’s original teaching purpose, core content, and pedagogical intent.

If important information is missing, the source is unclear, or substantial changes may materially affect the activity content, we may contact you using the email address provided with your submission.

4. Review and Publication

Submitting an activity does not guarantee that it will be published on MAPS.

MAPS may consider the activity’s pedagogical relevance, clarity, practicality, content quality, source information, copyright or privacy concerns, possible duplication with existing activities, and other editorial considerations in deciding:

  • whether to publish the submission;
  • when to publish it;
  • the form in which it will be published;
  • whether further editing or additional information is needed.

MAPS may also decide to delay or decline publication of a submission and does not guarantee publication of all submissions.

5. Contributor Information, Public Attribution, and Contact

When submitting an activity, you are required to provide your name and a valid email address so that MAPS can identify and manage the submission and contact you when reasonably necessary regarding review, source verification, editing, or other submission-related matters.

Whether your name or other attribution information is publicly displayed with a published activity is your choice. Providing your name as part of the submission does not mean that your name will automatically be displayed publicly.

If you choose public attribution, MAPS may credit you using the name, display name, or other attribution information you confirm. If you choose not to be publicly credited, the activity may be published without publicly identifying you.

The email address you provide with your submission will not be displayed publicly as part of the activity. MAPS may use that email address to contact you regarding review, editing, source verification, attribution, updates, or other matters reasonably related to your submission.

6. Ownership and License Granted to MAPS

For original content to which you hold the rights, you retain ownership of that content. These Terms do not transfer ownership of your original content to MAPS.

By submitting content to MAPS, you grant MAPS a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, review, edit, organize, reformat, translate, display, publish, and distribute the submitted content as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, and promote the MAPS project.

This license applies to the MAPS website and database, as well as educational, informational, presentation, and promotional materials directly related to the MAPS project.

Because this license is non-exclusive, you may continue to use, teach, publish, and share your original activities yourself and may also authorize other individuals or organizations to use them.

7. Third-Party Materials, Student Privacy, and AI-Assisted Content

If your submission includes images, sheet music, lyrics, recordings, videos, teaching materials, files, quotations, or other third-party content created or owned by others, you are responsible for providing accurate source information to the best of your ability and for ensuring that you have the right to share those materials in the manner submitted.

For third-party materials where copyright status or permission to use is unclear, MAPS may remove or replace the material, provide only a link to the original source, or decline to publish it.

Do not submit student personal information, or photographs, videos, recordings, student work, or other materials that identify specific students, without appropriate permission. If your submission includes such student-related materials, you confirm that you have obtained the permissions needed to share and publish them. MAPS may remove or decline to publish such materials for privacy, safety, or editorial reasons.

You may use generative artificial intelligence or other automated tools to assist with drafting, translation, or organization of your submission. However, whether or not such tools are used, you remain responsible for the accuracy of the final submitted content, the accuracy of source information, and the permissions required for its use.

8. Updates, Modifications, and Removal

To maintain the accuracy, consistency, and quality of the MAPS platform, address copyright, privacy, or other reasonable concerns, or adapt to changes in database structure or platform functionality, MAPS may update, modify, reclassify, or remove published activities when necessary.

If you are the contributor of an activity and wish to:

  • correct attribution or source information;
  • update the submitted content;
  • raise a question about MAPS’s editing or presentation of the activity;
  • request removal of an activity you submitted;

you may contact MAPS at:

Email: musicactivityps@gmail.com

MAPS will review such requests and respond or take action as reasonably appropriate.

MAPS may not be able to ensure complete withdrawal or deletion of all copies that exist in necessary technical backups or historical archives, or that have already been lawfully saved, cited, or shared by third parties.

9. Agreement to These Terms

Before submitting an activity, you must confirm that you have read and agreed to these MAPS Submission Terms.

By checking the agreement box on the submission page and submitting an activity, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.
